Fortunately, the rollback driver was still there and I was able to roll it back to the newer driver, One concern I have is that a reset may install the older driver and maybe not even allow me to roll it back to the newer one. When I used update, to update the driver, it installed an older driver than the one that was already installed and the older driver didn't work at all (at least I don't think it did.didn't test it much but if it did work, it was no better that the newer driver). One of the things a Network Reset does is reinstall the driver. One thing you may wish to do before starting this is to create a new restore point in System Restore so that you can go back to the condition it was in before making changes. About the only thing that can go wrong would be if you didn't copy the command properly. The commands are very specific and don't "do all kinds of things".

I'll have a few beers and see if that gives me the courage to give it a try. Would hate to make things not work at all. These automatic fixes do all kinds of things and I don't even know what they are. Sounds good, but a little scared to try this. This actually installed an older driver which didn't seem to work at all so I rolled it back to the (original) newer driver which is: Set device setting to "100 mbps duplex" instead of "Auto negotiation"Ħ. Turned off file and printer sharing in device properties.ĥ. Turned off "Network discovery" in advanced sharing settings.Ĥ. Here are some things I tried that did not work:ġ. I researched it a little and tried several things, but nothing so far made any difference. It just takes a long time, then it starts by itself. I don't have to touch the cable, jiggle it or anything like that. But I don't think that is the problem as the cable works fine when plugged into my laptop and it also works fine on this computer without having to touch the cable, it just takes a long time for the connection to be made. When I am waiting for the connection to be established, the troubleshooter will report that the cable isn't connected. Once the connection starts it works fine. The problem is that the Ethernet connection takes maybe 5 minutes or more to start when I boot up or wake the computer from sleep mode.
